Education Parents as Teacher Program (PAT) and School Readiness Program (SRP

Holy Cross Ministries offers early childhood education and support for children ages 0 to 3 and their parents through the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program. This free program provides families with two home visits per month, aiming to empower parents as their child’s first and most important teacher.
Parent Educators conduct annual hearing and vision screenings, lead developmentally appropriate activities, identify early signs of developmental delays, assess social-emotional growth, and support the development of parenting skills and goal setting.

Full-day classes are held Monday through Thursday, from September to May, and include academic and enrichment activities designed to prepare children for a successful transition into the public school system—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Counseling Program
Holy Cross Ministries’ Counseling Program is dedicated to supporting the psychological well-being of crime victims from underserved communities. Services are offered in both English and Spanish by bilingual, bicultural therapists. Most clients have experienced domestic violence, assault, human trafficking, or similar trauma. The program collaborates closely with HCM’s community health workers and legal team to provide comprehensive, wraparound care tailored to the needs of this vulnerable population.

Promotor/a Outreach Program
Holy Cross Ministries’ community health workers assist individuals in navigating the healthcare system and accessing social services. Their support includes help with CHIP/Medicaid applications, re-enrollment forms, and referrals tailored to each client’s needs. They also guide families through applications for social services and provide continued advocacy and support.

To support healthy and informed pregnancies, Holy Cross Ministries’ community health workers offer prenatal education through both group classes and individual sessions for expectant parents. In collaboration with Saint Martha’s Baby Project, HCM also provides free infant layettes to parents and caregivers.

Niños Especiales Familias Fuertes (NEFF) is a bi-monthly support group for Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers of children and adults with special needs. Facilitated by Holy Cross Ministries’ Community Health Workers, the group offers emotional support, education, advocacy, and access to resources to help strengthen and empower families.

Families Talking Together (FTT) is a two-part workshop for Salt Lake County residents that aims to strengthen parent–adolescent communication and delay the onset of adolescent sexual activity.
Designed for parents of children ages 10 to 14, the workshop is offered in both English and Spanish.
HCM’s FTT workshops are funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), and the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB).

Holy Cross Ministries’ Case Manager / Victim Advocate offers dedicated support to individuals affected by crime, helping identify their needs, develop personalized safety plans, and coordinate access to social services. The advocate works closely with clients to create strategies that promote self-sufficiency and stability during challenging times.

Legal Immigration Program
In response to the significant need for affordable legal services for immigrants in Utah, Sister Kathleen Moroney, J.D., established the Immigration Legal Services department at Holy Cross Ministries on September 25, 2000. Since its founding, the program has supported thousands of individuals on their path to citizenship.
