Fire Prevention Tips – Have 2 Ways Out
In a fire, every second counts — being prepared can save lives. Having an escape plan helps your family get out quickly. A small flame can grow into a major fire in less than 30 seconds, and thick smoke can fill a home within minutes.
Create a map of each floor in your home, marking all doors and windows. Be sure to plan two escape routes from every room.
Buy collapsible escape ladders that have been tested and approved by a recognized safety lab. Use them only during an actual emergency.
Create an escape plan that includes anyone in your home with a disability.
Teach children how to safely escape on their own in case you’re unable to assist them.
Practice Your Plan
Practice your fire escape plan twice a year with everyone in your household, including children and individuals with disabilities. It’s also helpful to review the plan with overnight guests.
