Avoid storing items in utility closets.
Check that electrical wiring and circuits are in good condition and not overloaded — especially during the holidays with decorations like Christmas lights.
Secure water heaters, heavy furniture (like bookshelves), and other large items to the wall to prevent tipping.
Make sure your street address is clearly visible from the road for emergency responders.
Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and test them regularly to keep your home safe.
